2024. What a year!
Firstly, I want to say thank you to all my clients from the bottom of my heart. Your love and support have truly been overwhelming this year and has seen me through some of the toughest times of my life and career to date.
The year started by seeing me final finish my 3-year Clinical massage course in Brighton! It was tough but so worth it. My newfound skills on myofascial release alone were worth all the assignments and essay! Not to mention the dissertation finale.
Completing my research project and dissertation on Myofascial release and Parkinson’s related tremor, was very humbling. To treat the participants who every day, battle with PD related tremor and still soldier on was amazing. To be able to offer them a type of massage that could give them respite from this was a career highlight and something I will continue my research on. Just maybe in a few years time!
Being published in the International Parkinson & Movement Disorder Society medical journals, was the cherry on the cake for my research. Although results only just held past a treatment, research is research, and the MDS saw how important this was to people living everyday with Parkinson’s Disease.
Very sadly, my trip to America didn’t take off, as you all know with my sudden health emergency & surgery.
September saw me go from healthy and finally recovering from the effects of altitude induced pulmonary oedema, to having emergency surgery for a 16cm x 14cm x 11cm Ovarian Cyst, that one day decided to go into ovarian torsion. This saw me loose my ovary and discover that I had another cyst, this time 8cm on my left ovary with a tumour on top. Thankfully, the NHS saved my life, to which I will always be grateful for and everything has since come back benign.
The recovery has been slow and had inevitable side effects on my hormones. However, with some incredible Physio from Viv at The Centre in Cardiff, Hypnotherapy from Donna Thomas – Solution Focused Hypnotherapy and counselling from Tanya Green at the Big Moose mental health charity, I am ready to get back to the thing I love most – looking after my clients.
To finish the year on a high, I decided to move premises to Rhiwbina. This was to better reflect my professionalism in a building with synergistic therapies and practitioners, in a warm, more tranquil environment than ever before. Offering more parking in the central location of Rhiwbina, my new home offers Physio on site and a Pilates & Yoga studio with multiple classes too. I look forward to showing you all round in the new year.
So, my year has been full of some of the lowest lows and highest highs, but my biggest lesson to take into 2025, is to look after myself first and foremost. If I don’t have enough in my tank, I cannot refill yours and look after you properly. If my diary is full, I cannot add another on the end of the day and I must learn to respect my own work life balance. The past few months has shown me new pathways of looking after myself, that I can teach you too. From simple meditations, to little everyday exercises and new massage techniques, to be able to give you the best ever treatments in 2025.
I wish you all a happy, healthy and prosperous new year, and once again thank you for all your love and support.
See you soon,
Sheree
